CASE STUDY
3d Rendering for Architects and Custom Home Builders
Even the most sophisticated plans by an experienced architect will only get you so far when trying to communicate your design to clients. The success of a project is based on visual communications.
Adam Casias is the principal architect of Studio1, an architectural design company based in Denver, Colorado specializing in high-end custom homes. Casias has been designing and building high-end luxury mountain homes since 2000.
Studio1 was hired to design a prototypical house for Caribou Ridge, a new 34 lot custom home development in Boulder County. Adam partnered with the professionals at Studio2a because of our experience of 3d rendering for architects and high quality home renderings. We are able to transform his architectural drawings into life-like, photo-real 3D architectural renderings that he could present to his developer client to speed up design communications. The architectural renderings were used as not only a design tool but also as a real-estate marketing image to pre-sell potential buyers.
Working with Studio2a’s team allowed the project to succeed on two fronts: The image was accurate to the architect’s design specifications creating clarity and confidence for the client AND the rendering beautifully highlighted the building’s connection to the natural Colorado mountain site – a top priority for both the architect and the developer. Additionally, the photo-realistic quality and attention to detail by Studio2a gave the project developer an effective, photo-real image to help pre-sell the homes to potential real estate buyers.
POTENTIAL IN AN EXPLODING MARKET
Thanks to explosive growth occurring in the Boulder area, a mild climate, and a beautiful mountain landscape, Colorado has become one of the fastest-growing states in America. This attracts home buyers from all over the world and has created an increased demand for unique, high-end luxury homes for affluent buyers. New “ski-in ski-out” homes at the base of ski resorts are selling for more than 20 million dollars.
Because of the massive surge in population to the state, residential real estate development has surged. In a profitable industry like real estate, competition is fierce and developers are using all the tools at their disposal to jumpstart the sales and marketing effort to gain an edge. Developers and real estate agents turn to 3D renderings in order to give would-be buyers an immersive experience for how their future home would look and feel even before construction has even started. It has become common for home pre-sales to be executed before construction even begins. In fact, residential pre-sales are so commonplace now that in some cases, projects rely on them to fund construction.
Selling a house that hasn’t been constructed yet requires a team of professionals to properly execute. While an architect may create excellent plans and blueprints, these 2D representations don’t interest buyers or sell homes for the developer; pictures do. To help convey his plans accurately and beautifully, Casias turned to the professionals of Studio2a to produce accurate, life-like, true-to-plan 3D renderings for his drawings.
The 3d renderings are a reflection of the quality of the design team. To sell multi-million dollar homes requires renderings with photo-realistic quality and expert precision.
THE RENDERING CHALLENGES OF CARIBOU RIDGE
Adam Casias of Studio1 has specialized in custom home design for over a decade. He was asked by a local developer to design a rustic, yet modern home that blended seamlessly with the mountainous Colorado landscape.
The developer knew they would need high-quality renderings to appeal to their high-end clientele. The marketing images are a reflection of the quality of the design team. To sell multi-million dollar luxury homes requires renderings with photo-realistic quality and expert precision.
The most important thing for Casias’ client was getting this home sold. With photo-realistic architectural renderings for pre-sales and real-estate marketing, the developer could show buyers detailed views of the completed project and potential finishes before construction even began. This is HUGE for developers who are eager to get projects funded and out of the ground. Great renderings lead to faster funding, shorter sales cycle, and fewer carrying costs.
The developer needed prospective buyers to really see a beautiful home when they looked at a 3D home rendering, not just an austere structure. To help, Casias requested Studio2a pay special attention to the home site’s connection with the natural environment. The exterior of the home needed to blend seamlessly with the rustic mountain landscape of Colorado.
Studio2a was up to the challenge.
``Studio2a knows architecture and can literally read between the lines. The process is so much faster when you don't have to draw out every detail.``
- Adam Casias, Studio1 Architects
At Casias’ request, a special effort was made to illustrate the natural, rugged mountain site. An extensive variety of native plants and natural textures were used in the rendering to create a realistic 3D exterior view of the unbuilt home. When a project goes to market, buyers want to have a clear picture of the beautiful home they would spend their hard-earned money on. Realistic and detailed 3D renderings showing the completed home make the developer’s job of pre-selling and funding the project that much easier.
Casias was thrilled with the images Studio2a produced and the project was a success, meeting demanding specifications and timelines. Studio2a turned his fantastic architectural design into marketable, realistic 3D renderings he was proud to present to his developer client.
